Golden Week 2026 Rental Info

Golden Week is one of the busiest times of year for us. If you are planning to rent a bike between April 29 and May 10, 2026, please read the information below before booking.

Please make one booking per group

If you are coming as a group, we ask that one person makes the booking for everyone.

When each person in a group books separately, check-in takes longer on the day and this can delay departure for everyone. If separate bookings cannot be avoided, please write the group leader’s name in the remarks section.
If possible, we also appreciate groups paying together, as processing separate payments takes more time.

Please also avoid booking multiple dates for the same group. We understand that the weather can be uncertain, but bikes are limited and holding several dates can affect other customers. If the forecast looks bad, you can change your date, but please make sure you do not create a double booking.

Book early

Reservations usually start filling up from mid-April.

We have around 70 bikes in total, including about 40 e-bikes and 30 cross bikes and other models, but during Golden Week some days may become fully booked.

We especially recommend booking early if you need:

  • a smaller or larger size
  • a specific bike model
  • an e-bike

If you come without a reservation and no bikes are available, we may not be able to rent you one. Sometimes bikes are returned around 2:00 pm, so there may be some availability later in the day.

Please note that customers with reservations are given priority, so walk-in customers may need to wait.

Also, if you choose the wrong bike size or model when booking, we may not be able to change it on the day, so please check carefully before confirming your reservation.

Parking is very limited

Please note that Trekkling does not have customer parking.

Parking in Okutama is very limited and is often full during Golden Week. The two main nearby car parks are:

  • Times Okutama Town Hall – 23 spaces
  • Hikawa Town Parking – 52 spaces

Both are likely to be very busy, and often full, especially during the holiday period. For that reason, we strongly recommend coming by train.

Our shop is only 1–2 minutes on foot from Okutama Station.

Rental bikes only during Golden Week

During Golden Week, we will be operating rental bikes only.

Please note that our guided tours will not run during this period.

Expect a busy morning

Most customers arrive in the morning during Golden Week, so you may need to wait a little before departure while we complete bike preparation and check-in.

Train services to Okutama are not very frequent, so please check your route and train times in advance.

All bikes must be returned by 5:00 pm.

Busiest dates

The dates expected to be busiest in 2026 are: May 2nd to May 6th

Drop-off location closures

Some of our drop-off locations are unavailable on certain dates during Golden Week.

Ome (Aoyagi Bicycle Shop)

  • No returns on April 26 and May 2nd to May 6th, 10th

Important note for May 2nd and 3rd

The Ome Grand Festival takes place on May 2nd and 3rd, so we recommend avoiding the Ome area on those dates.

Returns to Aoyagi Bicycle Shop in Ome will not be possible.

Returns to Ozawa Shuzo, near Sawai Station, will still be available.

Weather and cancellations

Weather during Golden Week can be changeable, so please bring rain gear.

We also sell disposable rain ponchos in the shop, but stock is limited.

If very bad weather is expected, we may decide to close. If that happens, we will contact customers the day before.

Please note that if we remain open and you cancel after 5:00 pm on the day before your rental, a cancellation fee may apply.

Spring forecasts can change quickly, so we strongly recommend checking the Okutama weather again late in the afternoon on the day before your ride.

Recommended weather sites

Forecasts can vary, so it is a good idea to check more than one source:
